The students in the KCABJ Urban Student Journalism Academy started the first week of the program at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley with no air conditioning.
The college on Monday, June 20 canceled classes because of the heat. The air conditioning remained off the entire week.
A storm that weekend had damaged the equipment, and new parts had to be ordered.
However, KCABJ members had made the commitment to continue the program regardless because speakers had already agreed to the community college location.
Thanks to KCABJ President Glenn Rice and KCABJ member Sharon Cheers for bringing in ice cold bottled water for the seven students and speakers. Thanks also to KCABJ Treasurer Lewis Diuguid for providing the large ice chest on wheels.
